OPERADELAWARE SEEKS NOMINATIONS FOR FREE POP-UP OPERA PERFORMANCES FOR FIVE LOCAL SCHOOLS

WILMINGTON, Del. — OperaDelaware’s commitment to equity and accessibility in music education has been galvanized by a generous grant from PNC ARTS ALIVE, THE LAFFEY-MCHUGH FOUNDATION and others. With support from community-minded institutions like these, OperaDelaware is now seeking nominations to bring the Pop-Up Opera experience to five deserving schools this spring for free performances. With the portable fire-engine red opera stage and roster of world-class artists, OperaDelaware will provide an unique opportunity for young Delawareans to experience opera up close and to nurture a sense of belonging and community through the performing arts.

This initiative is available for students K-12. With programs and activities tailored to each age group, teachers and students can experience opera in a developmentally-appropriate way, and immerse themselves in this new experience. “Opera for All” has become a battle cry for OperaDelaware, and thanks to generous support, this new Pop-Up Opera initiative will enable the company to engage with students and build the audience of tomorrow today.

Since it’s inception, Pop-Up Opera has worked to meet people where they are and create an approachable experience where all people feel they belong. This work must be rooted in education. The support of the Laffey-McHugh Foundation and PNC Arts Alive eliminates the financial burden that would limit OperaDelaware’s reach. Because of their generous support, five schools will be selected from a nomination process through the OperaDelaware website. Schools can be nominated by parents, students, educators, and supporters of the opera by visiting https://www.operade.org/education-programs and submitting the nomination form. Nominated schools will be adjudicated based on the form, communication with the nominated schools, and scheduling availability.

Please submit nominations by March 1, 2023, to ensure that the students of Delaware can experience this incredible opportunity. Whether you’ve been inspired by the work of an educator, the faculty, or the students, nominate a deserving school for a Pop-Up Opera performance and help OperaDelaware develop the audience of tomorrow. With your nomination, we can create a sense of belonging that ties the young people of this community to the arts in an innovative way.

With accessible programming for grades K-12, OperaDelaware will introduce Delaware’s youth to the fun, creativity, and power of live opera singers. OperaDelaware’s performances are ideal for a school theater, auditorium, or outdoors. The Pop-Up Opera truck allows OperaDelaware to set up the portable stage in a parking lot or football field for a fantastic outdoor performance that connects with the maximum number of students in a safe environment. Help OperaDelaware create “Opera for All” by making the arts accessible and fun in our community. Please submit nominations by visiting https://www.operade.org/education-programs by March 1, 2023.
