OperaDelaware’s 2026-27 mainstage season at The Grand Opera House will take you to hell and back. This season features two towering masterpieces:

Don Giovanni 2026/27

Don Giovanni (October 16 + 18, 2026)
Don Giovanni is a moral thriller, a ghost story, and a dark comedy wrapped in some of the most electrifying music ever written. History’s most infamous seducer evades the consequences of his lascivious actions until the supernatural world comes calling. See what happens when his bill finally comes due when OperaDelaware presents Mozart's Don Giovanni at The Grand Opera House, October 16 and 18.

Orpheus and Eurydice 2026/27

Orpheus and Eurydice (May 21 + 23, 2027)
The myth of Orpheus and Eurydice asks whether love is strong enough to conquer death. Gluck combines music and dance in his retelling of this iconic Greek tragedy. Orpheus and Eurydice is a meditation on death that cuts to the raw emotion of a man overcome by loss who descends into Hell for love only to lose everything in a single moment. Can love conquer fate to reunite these mythic lovers? Join OperaDelaware and First State Ballet on May 21 and 23 at The Grand Opera House to follow this hero’s journey home.

OperaDelaware Chamber Series 2026/27

OperaDelaware’s 2026-27 Chamber Series is a genre-blurring exploration of opera in intimate, unexpected ways. From iconic arias to boundary-pushing debuts, this season invites audiences to experience the art form up close—with passion, humor, and fearless creativity.

Don Giovanni Portraits 2026/27

Don Giovanni Portraits (October 8 + 10, 2026)
In the intimacy of the OperaDelaware Studios, Portraits weaves together live performance, expert storytelling, and historical background to bring you closer than ever before to the music and drama. Pianist and conductor Husan Chun-Novak leads a chamber orchestra and soloists through highlights of Mozart's electrifying Don Giovanni score.

Fernanda 2026/27

Fernanda (November 13 + 15, 2026)
In the final years of Queen Isabel II's reign, a beautiful innkeeper's daughter finds herself caught between two impossible loves: a dashing soldier who chases ambition over devotion, and a wealthy landowner who would burn down a monarchy to win her heart. Fernanda,an intimate chamber reduction of the larger Luisa Fernanda, is Spanish zarzuela at its most romantic and political. The revolution and heartbreak unfold in the same breath, set to music so achingly beautiful it helped define an entire national sound. Don't miss this masterpiece of the Spanish stage, considered by many to be the last great romantic zarzuela ever written.

Amahl and the Night Visitors 2026/27

Amahl and the Night Visitors (December 5 + 6, 2026)
Join OperaDelaware for an immersive, site-specific production of Gian Carlo Menotti's holiday classic Amahl and the Night Visitors at the Sunday Breakfast Mission. A mother and her disabled son offer three kings shelter in a single unforgettable night of generosity, hope and faith. OperaDelaware presents a modern re-telling of this beloved opera written by “the American Puccini” in partnership with the Sunday Breakfast Mission, a vital service organization protecting the wellbeing of Wilmington’s unhoused population.

Written in Secret 2026/27

Written in Secret (January 22 + 24, 2027)
Written in Secret pairs Janáček's The Diary of One Who Vanished, a dark confession of forbidden love, with Daron Hagen's Songs of Madness and Sorrow, a fractured chorus of obsession and paranoia voiced entirely by a single performer. Company Artist Dane Suarez, who thrilled audiences last season in the title role in Andrea Chénier, brings raw intensity to this rare and intimate program. Don't miss this limited studio engagement, January 22 & 24, 2027, at OperaDelaware Studios.

Le Villi 2026/27

Le Villi (March 19 + 21, 2027)
Before Tosca, Madama Butterfly, and La Bohème, there was Le Villi. This electrifying debut of twenty-five-year-old Giacomo Puccini is proof that one of opera's greatest voices arrived fully formed. Rooted in the same dark folklore that inspired the ballet Giselle, Le Villi  is a gothic revenge story of breathtaking ferocity. After a young woman dies from a broken heart, the forest fairies (the Villi) are invoked to seek out the heartbreaker and force him to dance until he dies. Don't miss this rarely performed masterwork when OperaDelaware brings Le Villi to The OperaDelaware Studios on March 19 and March 21.

Orpheus Retold 2026/27

Orpheus Retold (April 9 + 11, 2027)
Orpheus Retold brings together three radically different one-act treatments of the world's oldest love story with each one upending the myth's assumptions about who suffers, who is to blame, and who actually gets to speak. OperaDelaware Company Artists bring a trio of works to life in an evening that moves from rage to grief to devotion. Experience the Orpheus legend from three unique perspectives through the music of three living composers: Jake Heggie, Jodi Gobel, and Jonathan Dove on April 9 and April 11 at the OperaDelaware Studios.
