The Under the Skirt Tour of the Civil War
April 4, 2008
At 7:00 pm you will have the rare opportunity of seeing a presentation of The Under the Skirt Tour of the Civil War, which offers an intriguing look at life and dress of the Civil War era, the time setting for
Little Women. Karen Jesse, Roxanna Hurst and Thomas Tear will appear as characters from the 1860s, give a brief historical timeline, and then proceed to dress Roxanna, who appears tastefully dressed in her
“underpinnings;” little do we know this is only the beginning! They will narrate the historical context of each piece as they add the many layers that created the silhouette of the times. In addition, there will be a large display of gowns, bonnets, antiques, photographs and original Civil War letters.
We also welcome OD newcomers, illustrator Erin O’Connor and photojournalist
Christopher Yasiejko. Ms. O’Connor will have several children’s illustrations and paintings inspired by children’s books on display, as well as screen-printed and hand-painted
‘Wild Taters’ t-shirts for sale. You will also be able to view and purchase the unique photography of Mr. Yasiejko. Returning artists include quilter
Sheilah Young and jewelry artist Malika Oyetimein, just in time for Mother’s Day! Art on the Town at OperaDelaware Studios runs from 5:30pm - 10:00pm, light snacks are served and a cash bar is available.
OperaDelaware Studios is located at: 4 South Poplar Street one block east of the train station.
On Martin Luther King Boulevard, go past the Amtrak station, through the light that crosses Rt. 13 and make your next right at S. Poplar St., going under the train bridge. OperaDelaware Studios will be on your left.
