2018 FESTIVAL | PUCCINI
Welcome to the 2018 Festival at The Grand Opera House, a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Puccini’s beloved Il Trittico with our own little twist. (We like to call it Il Trittico plus one, divided by two.)
For this spring's Festival (April 28-May 6, 2018), we have harvested a half dozen one-acts from Puccini masterpieces, plus a Puccini-inspired extra. The tragedies Il Tabarro (The Cloak) and Suor Angelica (Sister Angelica), which make up the first two acts of Il Trittico, will be presented together in one enthralling performance. Then, for contemporary twist, the uproarious Gianni Schicchi (the third act of the Triptych) will be paired with Buoso’s Ghost, Michael Ching’s hilarious “sequel” to Schicchi. The Festival will also include A Flight of Puccini, a special concert performance with piano at our Riverfront Studio, which is part of our new Studio series, Opera Uncorked with Swigg. Festival stars will take on Act I of La Bohème, Act II of Tosca, and Act III of Madama Butterfly, all paired with an optional wine tasting. That’s seven glorious one-acts over two weekends.
